I agree with all you've said (pts 1 -4) & they're not something I haven't heard before. But this statement of yours really made me straighten up & think:
If the primary purpose of marriage in society isn't to raise children in a loving family as the basic building block of a strong society, then what is the argument against gay marriage?
I used to be one of the "Catholics" who had the sort of view on life as you mentioned. Until I read Scott Hann's "Rome Sweet Home". It was then I really started to think of Marriage as a Covenant between man & God, and what that covenant meant. I also understood the Church's position on contraceptives for the first time.
It's important for ALL Catholic to learn the reasons behind the teachings of the Church before "deciding for themselves" whether to follow them or not. The easy way out is more often than not, the wrong way.
