Here's the latest news from Massachusetts:
Quote
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has cleared the way for lesbian and gay couples in the state to marry, ruling Tuesday that government attorneys "failed to identify any constitutionally adequate reason" to deny them the right.

Full story here.

US President Bush had this to say:
Quote
"Marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman," he said. "Today's decision ... violates this important principle. I will work with congressional leaders and others to do what is legally necessary to defend the sanctity of marriage."

I assume everyone here is against Gay Marriages & supporting Bush on this one, let me know if I'm wrong.

Blessings,

Melody

I think gay marrage is a syptom of a wider problem.  That is, an overall assault on Gd's plan for marriage.  I'll list a few things here.  I'd be happy to explain further if anyone is interested in why I list these specific things.

1.  Artificial contraception (a contraceptive mentality)
2.  Sexual promiscuity (sexual intercourse outside the marriage covenant)
3.  Divorce
4.  Civil unions

If the primary purpose of marriage in society isn't to raise children in a loving family as the basic building block of a strong society, then what is the argument against gay marriage?

Sadly, I know many Christian couples who see children as something to avoid until they get the material things and have all the fun they want.  Then they'll be ready for kids.  As a means to this end, they use artificial contraception and consider themselves "good stewards."  When they've had the number of children they want, one of them gets sterilized so they don't "have to worry" anymore.

I don't think that this mentailty is what God intended.

Hey Seeker,

I agree with all you've said (pts 1 -4) & they're not something I haven't heard before. But this statement of yours really made me straighten up & think:

Quote

I used to be one of the "Catholics" who had the sort of view on life as you mentioned. Until I read Scott Hann's "Rome Sweet Home". It was then I really started to think of Marriage as a Covenant between man & God, and what that covenant meant. I also understood the Church's position on contraceptives for the first time.

It's important for ALL Catholic to learn the reasons behind the teachings of the Church before "deciding for themselves" whether to follow them or not. The easy way out is more often than not, the wrong way.

Blessings,

Melody
