Read: Luke 20: 27 - 38

Reflect:The Sadducees were the priestly class of the Jewish society.  For them only the five books of Moses contained the Word of God.  And there was nothing in them about the resurrection of the dead.  Jesus reply showed that the Sadducees were ‘children of this world’ by their simplistic view on the after-life and even about the life of God.

Jesus came to proclaim the Good New of resurrection of the dead.  When He said on the cross, “Father into your hands I commit my spirit,” He was entrusting His whole being, body and soul, to the Father.

Unless I try to do that, as far as I am able, I don’t really believe in the resurrection- neither that of Jesus nor of anyone else.

Respond:
Q.1 On what law do the sadducees base their question ? (See Deut.25:10)

Q..2 How does Exodus 3:6 (quote in  verse 38) prove the fact of resurrection ?

Q.3 What hope does the fact of resurrection give you ?

The law that a man would take the wife of his brother and raise children that are legally his brother's so that his brother's name would live on.

These "dead" men are spoken of as "living."  This can only be true if the resurrection is a fact.  This is also proof to me of the communion of saints.

Q.3 What hope does the fact of resurrection give you ?
It's the goal of life on earth.  That we may be made worthy of the promise of eternal life and eternity with God.

Agree with Seeker on questions 1 & 2, so won't answer them separately. Esp. agree with this statement Seeker made:

About Q3: which asks "What hope does the fact of resurrection give you?",
my answer is EVERYTHING. I believe my life is  worth living because of the life that I hope for after death. Truly it would be useless to live if only for this world, and then to die and be gone for ever. What a waste.

And if there were no ressurection, then indeed there would be nothing to look foward to! With the ressurection, comes the hope for eternal life, the hope of seeing the Living God one day in all His splendor, the hope of meeting the saints, of being with the angels, of life in paradise. What more can one hope for?

Blessings,

Melody
