Hello friends!
I recently received one of those spam emails that made me think about our Muslim brothers and sisters. The title was: INVITING CHRISTIANS TO THE RIGHT WAY AND REDEMPTION
The email could have easily been sent by a Christian had the title been INVITING MUSLIMS TO THE RIGHT WAY AND REDEMPTION.
I read through the email and three things came to mind:
1. The Muslim objections as listed in the email were based on a misunderstanding of the Trinity and misinterpretations of the Bible.
2. Muslims and Christians share common values and some common beliefs about God.
3. Christians spend much time arguing amongst ourselves when perhaps we should spend more time sharing the truth with believers such as Muslims and Jews, but most especially with non-believers who have even less of the truth than believers in the one God. This inner squabbling can be scandalous when done in front of Muslims and Jews. I do not say this to make light of the important differences within Christianity, especially those that have eternal consequences. Simply to point out that in our effort to share the whole truth of Christ with fellow Christians, we should not forget those who are ignorant of Christ as Saviour and Redeemer.
I'd like to start by pointing out that Christians, Muslims, and Jews are allies in the war against the culture of death. We agree on the evil of abortion. We can and should work together against the world and secularism that seeks to take God out of our lives. We believe that our purpose is to serve God, not ourselves. We believe that this should drive civilization, not hedonism and materialism. In these things we agree and can work together to fulfill God's will.
Here is another
example of something we can probably agree on.
In other posts in this forum, I'd like to discuss the differences and similarities between the beliefs of Christians and Muslims and to clear up misconceptions on both sides for a better understanding of each other. I need the help of this community since I am a novice in the beliefs of Islam. I'll do my best to accurately represent their beliefs and not just offer them up for attack.
I hope that our goal in these discussions will be twofold:
1. Better understand our Muslim friends so we can work together against common enemies.
2. Better prepare us to share the truth of Jesus and the Gospel with our Muslim friends so that they may have the whole Truth of God. If we could help shed more light on the truths they do have, perhaps we can aid God's work so that their joy may be complete.
