I have a close friend who wants to get a tattoo... I myself also would really love getting one - if it were allowed by God, but I believe it's not.

After all it say's in Leviticus 19:28 (New American Standard Bible)

Quote
You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.

Anyway, I did a search online & find that many people have many opposing views on the topic - many even suggest that the verse is no longer valid as it's OT.

Anyone knows the official Catholic Church pov?

Blessings,

Melody

Its wrong to say that this verse is no longer valid as its OT.

We have to give importants to each and every word from the Bible.

Our bodies belong to the Lord and we have to be very sensitive to the Holy Spirit who lives in us , if God has given

instructions to us not to do a certain thing we should not do it.... we cannot compromise with the Word of God.

God  certainly doesn't require us to wear a uniform..but we must be very careful about following the latest fads, remember

Satan is the prince of this world. Fads become fads only because they are popular with this world, anything to do with Christ

will never be popular with this world.

Derek,

I totally agree with you. In fact I found this really great page online:

Catholics can really solve a lot of confusion on how to act, if they ask themselves at least some of these questions prior to doing that act...

       Would a Saint do it?
Would I be embarrassed if Our Lord or His Blessed Mother was to see this?
Am I really doing all that I do in Christ Jesus?
Would what I am doing be accepted in every century of Christendom PRIOR to this one?
Given a choice, would this be deemed a Virtue or a Vice?
Would I allow my family, friends or children to do the same?
Would the majority of Catholics do this, and if not, WHY not?
Would I be a good representative of my Catholic Religion by doing this?
Drawing a line between those who would condone this act and those who wouldn't, which side of the line would I be on and who else would be there?
