Pope's remarks about Islam spark protests

I saw the pictures of protest in india regarding Pope Benedict XVI's lecture at a university in germany. Seems ot be an overreaction to me. The context of his remarks are in opposition to using violence to spread religion. It was not an attack on peace loving Muslims.
Here's the full text of the lecture Pope Benedict gave.

The inter-religious tension is a dangerous thing here in India. And unfortunately a lot of politicians fuel the fire towards their own ends.
A lot of times in India attacks are made on the Muslim communities by Hindu political parties. Most Muslims being extremist and fundamentalists themselves, teemed with the fact that they're often targets, tend to take most things out of propotion.
The Media does not help - they pretty much highlighted a point or two of the Pope's speech and splashed the same on every newspaper headline. I myself was shocked and couldn't understand how and why the Pope would say such things.
It was only after churches and private emails went around urged people to read the entire speech that I understood things from the Pope's point of view.
Unfortunately I do not know if even one Muslim will have done this.
All we can do is pray. And I believe prayer is a powerful weapon and the first resort in our fight with the enemy.
Blessings,
Melody
